We found out more about our trip through a conference call on Friday night. On Thursday we received an e-mail from our team leader that said that China has closed all the Social Welfare Institutes (government run orphanages) to foreigners due to a case of the swine flu. I have to admit that I did not full on panic, but all these scenarios started running through my head. We are not going to go...they are going to cancel the trip...or change the dates, which means that there is a possibility that we could not get off work. The list goes on and on. Why do I worry? God is in control!
On Friday we learned that we are still going forward with our plans. We hope that China will lift the ban, but if not, we are coming up with alternatives. There is another group from Visiting Orphans that leaves about ten days ahead of us. We are waiting to see what path they have to take. Here is our game plan. We are continuing on to Fushun as originally planned. If the ban is not lifted, we will extend our stay at Philip Hayden and then visit Maria's Big House of Hope (part of Steven Curtis Chapman's ministry). I feel much better about the situation now. And although I want to see the kids in Fushun again, (especially since this might be our last time for awhile) I know that God will send us where He needs us. Please continue to pray for our trip. it is in His hands. (Four weeks from tomorrow!!)
