Random Useful Knowledge

God chooses the strangest places to get your attention. Today I had a hair appointment. Now, I know that most of you are thinking big deal, but I go to a really good hairstylist (although, the way that I do my hair does not always reflect it) and I have to make my appointments months in advance! No lie...she is that good! Well, today my appointment was at 12:30 and I was pressed for time. I was aggravated that I was running kinda late because that is a pet peeve of mine and I was in the middle of a phone call where my husband used the phrase "you are going to be disappointed, but..." when I pulled into the parking lot. Luckily, my stylist was eating lunch and that gave her a little more time to finish! When she was ready, I sat down in the chair and explained how I was unhappy with my hair (plus, still a little miffed at the days previous events) when, she asked if I was planning anything for the summer! I told her about our mission trip this summer.
I shared a little about my passion for missions, adoption, and orphans. Then she told me about an organization called Portion for Orphans that a lady from her church started. She said that the founder goes to various orphanages around the world with the basic principle to share the Gospel and love the kids! How cool! I was excited because they might actually be based around the East Texas area where I might could get involved and volunteer. So I came back to work and googled it and found their website! Their mission statement says that they are a non profit organization that wants to achieve the goals of:

  • Raising public awareness about orphans worldwide
  • Improving the quality of care provided to orphans
  • Promoting and encouraging adoption

There were also pictures of their Hope Run 2007 that was a 5K run and 1 mile walk to raise money for orphans. My husband would love that and I would, too (if I could get started going back to the gym)!

Anyway, I thought once I got back to work about how my whole attitude changed because God got my attention. You always feel so much better when your focus isn't on yourself and your circumstances! And since I had been praying for a place where I could get involved and serve, God was able to get my attention again! I may have just found a local charity that I am passionate about and may can get involved in! Go God!!

How cool... God does work and often when we least expect it. Does this group do any work in any of the Romanian orphanages?
